Youth Programs at International Focus

Here at International Focus, we strive to build global understanding and respect by facilitating face-to-face diplomacy and professional, personal, and artistic exchange. There are a number of different programs that have been developed to achieve this goal by hosting international exchange participants from 8 different countries, such as Iraq, Serbia, and Mexico. Through these programs, over 200,000 teens and young adults have been positively impacted and given the chance to enhance existing skills as well as gain new ones.

The Open World, Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI), International Visitor’s Leadership (IVLP), and Youth Leadership are some of the most well-known programs provided by International Focus. Many of these programs focus on creating a professional environment for participants through appointments, meetings, and cultural activities, such as meeting members of Congress.
The IVLP Program is considered the Department of State’s premier professional exchange program. International Focus coordinates programming for nearly 150 participants each year. When the itinerary includes the Triangle Area, we arrange professional meetings in a variety of fields ranging from business, education, innovation, environment, agriculture, rule of law, grassroots democracy, human rights, aviation, and much more. The YLAI program is a four-week program which brings young Latin American and Caribbean social entrepreneurs to the U.S. to strengthen entrepreneurial and leadership skills, promote partnerships, build cross-national relationships, and attract investments and resources. Lastly, the Open World program is the first and only international exchange agency in the U.S. Legislative Branch and is considered extremely effective. Through Open World, nearly 18,000 current and future leaders to have meaningfully engaged and interacted with members of Congress and thousands of other Americans.
